“I’ve always loved butterflies, because it reminds me that it is never too late to transform ourselves.”-Drew Barrymore

Just the other night I was chatting with my boyfriend and I was in a pretty bummed out mood. I kept telling him, “I wish I had figured all of this out sooner. I wish it didn’t take me so long to figure out my life.” The conversation stemmed from the fact that I was headed back to college that night taking what will be a very hard class for me.  When I thought about it later, I realized that up until this point, I HAVE ALWAYS gone after what I wanted career wise. I realized I am just on a new path.

I wanted to be a preschool teacher, and I was. For ten years I taught the wee little ones, and I was good at it. I wanted to become a photographer. I left the preschool I worked at for many years, moved myself cross country, attended photography school in Massachusetts, and became a photographer. It is a career I still pursue and get better and better at every day. I wanted to challenge myself beyond preschool and took a job at a school for children in the special education realm and completely fell in love with it. I learn something everyday from my students and have learned the art of being humble.

My path now leads me down toward nursing. I never thought life would lead me here. My mother has been a nurse for 40 years and only at the end of her journey toward retirement have I decided nursing and helping others would be the journey I would take. Go figure. It’s not going to be easy. Truthfully I’ll say, I’ll probably hate school 50% of the time. It’s never been a favorite of mine. Long nights studying and time away from my boy are all sacrifices I’ll need to make, and its daunting, but doable!

I’m hoping this career path is the last one I take in this lifetime, but you never know!

“The task ahead of you is never as great as the power within you!”-Norm Bouchard
