…Rights

right |rītnoun a moral or legal entitlement to have or obtain something or to act in a certain way

Headed out to the Women’s March in San Jose on this historic day, January 21, 2017. Scored with a super close parking spot and an arrival time that gave us plenty of time to maneuver through a smaller crowd then what ended up being there in the end. It was just me and my son who attended. I tried to explain, best I could in the car, to my three year old, what the march was about and what we were doing there. He was observant. He noticed the pink hats right away. He began counting them. He wasn’t sure why everyone wanted to take his picture, but he smiled willingly. He said, “your welcome,” to strangers that came up to him and told him they were glad he was there. Randomly he started singing, True Colors, from Trolls at the top of his lungs, (which I actually thought was quite fitting) with everyone in close proximity to him, giggling and smirking at him. He held up his stick at the end of our route and said, “Mommy, I stand with Mommy!”

We met some wonderful people there today and the atmosphere was very peaceful. Lots of pictures were taken and I just love the solidarity, exuberance and support you can feel throughout them! Hope you enjoy the long post!

Whatever my son took from this day, I hope he can look back on it years from now, and realize what an important part of history he was privy too. That coming with me, and “standing by me,” meant more to me then anything I’ve ever done with him. It is by far our best adventure yet. Samuel, I promise as your Mom, to continue to expose you to kindness, love and the rights we all have as humans.
