rapport |raˈpôr, rə-| noun a close and harmonious relationship in which the people or groups concerned understand each other’s feelings or ideas and communicate well.
I still have very fond memories of who my best friend was when I was a kid. Our mothers were friends, we attended the same school together, starting at preschool all the way up to 8th grade, her mom coached us both in soccer, we were in the same brownie troop (selling and selling thin mints cookies in front of Safeway every year) and we used to vacation together. We both played endlessly at each others houses, but I loved going to hers because she had a park across the street from her house, where we’d climb trees and make mud pies, and just play. Her name is Michelle. Four years ago we met up at the spot we used to vacation together all those years ago. It had been almost 20 years since we’d seen each other, but the short visit was worth it. We caught up, did some reminiscing and laughed quite a bit.
My son has met some great friends at his preschool. He’s bonded with quite a few boys. I call them the blondies, because you guessed it, they all have blonde hair. This past school year we had some playdates and one half a night sleep over with these boys. I know as a parent I want more than anything for my son to meet like minded kids, kids that are kind, curious, and fun loving. Ultimately, kids that play well with him. He clicked quickly with this little cutie. So much that a few of his stuffed animals are named after him and every time my son brings home a new dance or saying, I know who he learned it from. I hope when they look back through the years they will remember the hikes they took, the animal parade they had while singing into microphones, the ice cream and popsicles, the silly faces and noises they made, and the rapport they had with each other. I hope all the blondies can get together soon and create some fun childhood memories together.
