…Project Happiness

happiness |ˈhapēnis| noun the state of being happy

She calls her movement Project Happiness: Paint the World Pretty. This social movement involves the art of paying it forward. Free art is dropped in different communities and the only job of the recipient is to do something nice for someone else. The first time she did this was in her own hometown. She hid over twenty paintings all around San Carlos, on benches, in bushes, up against brick buildings, anywhere she wanted. Each painting had an index card taped to the back describing the movement. Her intention is to paint the world a better place and put smiles on the finders face! This wonderful artist, well she is my friend, Lindsay DeAlba.

This summer, every Friday, Lindsay will drop her own paintings in the mail headed to different cities and states. In your package you will receive instructions on what to do with her art. How generous and awesome is this gal!! Geez, so far within weeks this project, started by one, has spread to over 10 states and 4 countries. People are excited and eager to join in on spreading love and art. I strongly urge you to get involved, at first it takes nothing from you except an email indicating your interest, then a package of free art arrives at your door, then you share with others! That’s it, so easy and so fun! I guarantee it will be the best part of your day. Then when you’re done, tell others!

I was honored to come to Lindsay’s art studio this weekend to photograph her at work on this movement amongst other things. It all got really interesting when the request from Lindsay was, “What do you think if I intentionally rubbed glitter all over my face!” Um, YES!

Please get involved and check out Lindsay’s website to see her other bodies of work and custom ordered paintings!

Here are the details for Project Happiness

Thursday Hype: The night before make a few social media posts about the movement: facebook, instagram, twitter, etc.  For example: Free Art//Project Happiness: Paint the World Pretty//Tomorrow morning I will be doing my part to spread more love and less hate. I will be dropping art from @lindsaydotart somewhere in my community. The only request from the finder is to “pay it forward” and do something nice for someone else.

Adding a sneak peek of a photo is always a great way to get people excited.

Friday Drop: The morning of the drop, have fun. You are every bit involved in this movement. Find a cool place to leave the painting, snap a picture and post it to social media!

You can check out #LDAfoundfridays or #painttheworldpretty for inspiration! Don’t forget to tag @lindsaydotart on the picture.

creativity |ˌkrē-āˈtivitē| noun the use of the imagination or original ideas, especially in the production of an artistic work. I’m lucky enough to surround myself with a lot of creative people. My friends include actresses, artists, chefs, comedians, a gaggle of photographers, musicians, calligraphers, DIYers, interior designers, quilters, scrapbookers, writers, bloggers, and so on and so on. Needless to say, I’m inspired pretty regularly. This […]

wingman |ˈwiNGˌmən| n. a man who helps or supports another man; a friend or close associate I was painfully shy as a kid. Painfully! I found it hard to make friends, was always the quiet one, hated small talk, and was anxious if I ever had to lead or carry on a conversation. Shyness, honestly there weren’t to many perks […]

drizzle |ˈdrizəl| noun light rain falling in very fine drops Come rain or shine was what I read on the Leap Sandcastle Classic’s website this past weekend. Wouldn’t you know, after a serious drought in California for the last four years, on this particular weekend, the Bay Area saw some much needed rain! A little rain didn’t stop us from […]

sea noun the expanse of salt water that covers most of the earth’s surface and surrounds its landmasses. Why are we so mesmerized by ginormous fish tanks? Why do people young and old, stop dead in their tracks to stare longingly at ocean life. I think it’s because the ocean is so vast, so beautiful, […]

time |tīm| noun an instance of something happening or being done; an occasion Hi All, Thanks for stopping by. I am so happy you are here! It is THAT time of year again. greeting |ˈgrētiNG| noun a polite word or sign of welcome or recognition Season’s Greetings! Too early you say? Not for this family. They are prepared for the impending holidays. They booked their session early and got a jump on the inevitable craze of the holiday cards. I met Matt, Lindsay and baby Dylan a few Sunday’s ago in the Presidio of San […]

ease |ēz| noun absence of difficulty or effort I’d love to say that each session I do starts out immediately with an absence of difficulty or effort, but that would be a lie. It always, as it should, takes a few setups to ease into picture taking. It’s unnatural for most people. So, as the photographer it is my […]

survival |sərˈvīvəl| noun the state or fact of continuing to live or exist, typically in spite of an ordeal They did it yay! They made it! happenstance |ˈhapənˌstans| noun chiefly N. Amer. coincidence It had been five years since I photographed this family. Then it was for Eriko and Peter’s wedding.
