drizzle |ˈdrizəl| noun light rain falling in very fine drops
Come rain or shine was what I read on the Leap Sandcastle Classic’s website this past weekend. Wouldn’t you know, after a serious drought in California for the last four years, on this particular weekend, the Bay Area saw some much needed rain! A little rain didn’t stop us from enjoying a fun day at the beach. Honestly, it made the sand much easier to maneuver into our sandcastle masterpieces. Well we weren’t actually participants in the the event per se, but we still created! My son and I met our two cousins down at Ocean Beach in San Francisco for some sand play time. The two boys had a great time playing together and getting dirty. My only advice for the public who comes out to enjoy this event is to take into account, that the start time of the event, is the starting point of making the sandcastles. All the teams are on a time crunch to make the best sandcastles. I thought we’d be arriving to walk up and down the beach looking at already created sandcastles. There was a little bit too much of a wait time for my son to really be interested in what was going on. We started to see creatures and buildings and vehicles form within the first few hours of our visit. By then, though the boys were getting restless and wanted to head home for lunch. Plus they were a bit wet and cold from all the drizzle. My advice, if you head out next year, with young kids, come later in the day to see the finished product, but be advised you will be parking quite a distance to get to the beach. It is a great event, benefiting Leap-Arts in Education! Enjoy!
